help with focus for 2 people in the photo nikon d 90

I am new to all this and need help on how to set the focus on my d 90 to take a picture of my daughter and her boyfriend and have them both in focus.. I have a 50 mm and a 18-270 some one please help me I will be taking the photos outside and it is cloudy out

The simplest solution, assuming both parties will be somewhat close to one another when you take the shot(s), would be to put the camera in full auto. You do that by putting the Mode dial (on the left) on the green "Auto" setting. The camera will do the rest.

Post back if you want to get fancier than this.

Late to this thread, but subject placement is very important. If you have any control over the posing, keep their eyes as close to the same plane of focus as you can.

I suspect the OP is not listening as they did a post and run a little over 3 weeks ago. That is good thinking on getting the eyes in the focal plane though.
