There is no way to Pause a video recording. You simply just stop it and restart it, to become a new file. Video normally is many short scenes (many short files), each maybe ten seconds long (just a number - but watch movies and time them). Then you use video software to assemble and edit those files and scenes into your full length video. Most of the DSR models cannot record one scene (between a start and stop) more than about 20 minutes anyway.

I was joking! He asked the question in 2010 and no one ever answered him.

I should pay more attention then. But since 2010, they still have not figured out any need to pause video. You probably have dozens or hundreds of files anyway, one more won't hurt.

I don't have a need to pause video. When I first heard that the D3300 shoots up to 20 minutes at a time my first thought was that most of my projects don't even last 20 minutes. Yeah, I noticed a long time ago that scenes and camera angles in movies, tv and commercials rarely last longer than a second or 2. The only reason I even clicked on this link was because it was suggested as being related to my post, which it isn't in any way, shape or form.

Anyway here's my latest "project". It's almost 4 minutes long!

The Nikon coolpix 900 and others have a pause function and this is extremely useful as there is no time wasted in pausing instantly and restarting is instantaneous. A must in long recording times in say a theatre where one would pause instantly for a break in scene. And then being able to start immediately again if required. It also saves data on disk space
