New and lost

Hello,
I have just received an assignment for work. I need to make a 2 to 3 minute video that displays our sequence of operation during plant production.

I have a brand new spiffy D850 to do it with. What I dont have is any idea how to get this done. I've never shot a video before, much less edit one.

I have an idea in my head of videoing snippets of the separate elements, putting those together, then adding an audio track over it.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks

That's about pretty much it...

Video software deals with what are called, Timelines... You take multiple/many snippets of video, and place them in a single file on a timeline... you adjust what are called Transitions between each video snip until you have a cohesive Timeline of video... then on a second Timeline (above/below) the Video Timeline you then add audio clips... they can be matched to the video sequences with either voice records or music...

You can also edit the little snips of video on the Timeline so the transitions flow together nicely, as well as the audio on its own timeline to do the same...

Study other videos with attention to how many little snips of video are really in what you see... And study how the little snips fit together from one to the next. Stay short... You'll notice that most are just barely 10-15 seconds of video...

Good luck on your venture...:)

Well... Since this is an assignment for work, I'll assume you're getting paid to do this, so a subscription to Adobe's Premier Pro CC would get you everything you need to accomplish your task... and if you needed/determined that you needed other tools in that package, they'd be available.

That's a shame... That doesn't change my answer... Are you doing this during regular business hours in lieu of your regular job or are you expected to do this after-hours?

As for editing you could do a Creative Cloud subscription for a single app for $20 a month then cancel when no longer needed. I would suggest you consider using Premiere Rush, instead of Premiere Pro, which I think you'll find more user-friendly as a beginner, but do your own research before you decide.
