Assemble video clips

When I use my Sanyo video camera I can join clips together (assemble edit) in camera ..Is there any simple/cheap way to do this with Nikon video clips ?
I have looked at some editing software but for some strange reason the product cannot be put back onto an SD card only a DVD.
Any help welcome

Windows Movie Maker does this - It's not included with Windows 10, but it is compatible and easy to find the download from Microsoft. You can join and cut clips however you like, add transitions and titles / credits.. And it's free (If you already have Windows!) Exports can be done in whatever file format you prefer, at various qualities / bit rates.
