Lense for youtube

Hey everyone!

I just created a youtube channel called Retired Youth. I currently have a d3300 with the kit lense but was thinking about getting the sigma 30mm 1.4 lense but it's really out of my price range. Is there a good lense for video that is similar to that particular sigma lense for a little cheaper?

Thank you!!

I'm very new to dslr's but I like how it focuses on the face but blurs the background.

That is assuming you can shoot in low enough light to open the lens up that much. Before you go buying lenses try shooting with the lens you have already. There is a lot you can do with what you have to get narrow depth of field. Don't buy anything before you learn how to use what you have

Ya see I have no idea what I'm doing lol I want to get high quality video but I'm not sure how to do it with the camera and how to adjust the lense manually and what to adjust.

That is why I am telling you DO NOT SPEND ANY MONEY till you learn the equipment you have. You can not buy quality and experience. Google Depth of Field and read up on it. Here is a starting point Understanding Depth of Field for Beginners It is basically the same for video as it is for still photography

A reasonable alternative is the Nikon 35mm F1.4 DX.

As others have advised, start shooting video with you kit lens just to learn. Then you can graduate to 35mm F1.8.

I'll just point out Sigma made two versions of their 30mm f/1.4 APS-C lens...

The current release is the 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM "Art" series lens that sells for ~$500 or so. The other is the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM which has been discontinued. Excellent copies sell for $250 on the used market and are easy to find.

Ya, this is my attempt just with photos and a little color grading but it feels harder with video because I use manual focus and my d3300 doesn't have a flip screen and I do it by myself Screenshot_2016-08-18-19-35-52~3.jpg
