Editing Software

Prior to 1995 in the SVHS and U-matic era I was a wiz on the edit suite. Now the basis of that was Insert edits and editing to the sound track..removing L or R and adding in new sound .
So far I have failed to find an editing programme that gives me the flexibility to control the sound track particularly ....

Can anyone guide me to a fully functioning editing software programme.

I use CyberLink Powerdirector and find it pretty good. I used to edit on the 2 inch and 1 inch recorders for broadcast and CyberLink does a pretty good job for me without spending a fortune on software.

Well for me it's like this. If I'm doing some easy editing I'll use Cyberlink PowerDirector and I do mean really easy like just bunching together some shots. But if I'm editing something together like some footage into something more complex I'll use Adobe Premiere Pro. The only thing I actually miss from editing footage on beta is that I can't hook up some kind of controlling device onto my pc and control stuff with knobs and buttons and sliders.
