How good is 4K

I was on a bird watching forum and saw this, the image was grabbed from 4k video on a Panasonic using an old canon 300mm lens from the 35mm film days,i do have permission to post this.

Picture by Esmae Watt and this info was sent to me with it.

Please note that I got about 3 minutes of good video at about 1/1000th second shutter speed, to freeze the motion.

You can step frame by frame to select the frames you wish to use. This 3 minutes of 4K video at 25FPS will provide 4,500 images to select from !

Perhaps not as good as a still image but boy its getting there.

I'm certain that for web only purposes 4K is good enough. I'd have to see how large prints look like before I start investing though.

I have a 4K curved screen TV and the picture quality is amazing, far better than HD.

My eyesight has degraded so rapidly, I can no longer tell the difference between Standard and HiDef, and now they're coming out with even sharper resolution.

Question is, why on earth would anyone post something in 4k on the net? Most people don't have a screen that can display it right. This is why i don't understand all the hype about having 4k video capability in cameras.

My only interest is the facility to capture a relatively high quality still for web posting, haven't looked at video since high 8 so was pleasantly surprised at the capture.

Yeah for posting on the internet I have an HD screen which is half a 4K so anything bigger than 1900 pixels across is going to be resized by the graphics adapter.

My understanding of the original post was to shoot 4K movies of birds or fast moving objects and then grab one of those frames to make a print from

It's my understanding that 4k is based off jpeg images interlaced for higher resolution than what hd video can offer. This is why it is easier for image grabbing from 4k video.
