70-200 VR vs. 70-200 VRII

So I am considering purchasing the Nikon 70-200mm but don't know if i should spend $500-$600 more on the more updated one with VR II, Nanocrystal coating and two additional ED elements. I would use this for commercial and some photojournalism. I have the budget to get either but it makes no sense to spend more if I don't have to. If anyone has any advice please let me know. Thanks

I just sold off my VR I version and picked up the VR II. I will tell you that limited experience with the two showed the VR II to be a bit sharper and actually quicker to focus. Obviously I should be expected to feel good about my direction to justify my move to the VR II, but it really seemed to be better.

What is your opinion on purchasing this lens manufacturer refurbished...is it safe to buy/ is it reliable? If anyone has any opinion it would be helpful thanks.

Nothing wrong with factory refurbished Nikon lenses. They have an excellent reputation with their lenses, so they're brought back to their original specs.
By the way, Tclose.....whereabouts are you? The UK? USA? Canada? Some other country? Let us know where you are. Sometimes it helps us help you in the answers we give. Prices vary around the world, right? :)

I have the 70-200 VRII lens for about three months now and I love it. It's more than I thought it would be. This summer I shot several portraits of people at deck parties and the details and sharpness are amazing. And the bokeh is beautiful, too! It is my best lens.

Hi guys

I just picked up the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII yesterday, and I have to say it’s totally awesome in ‘every’ way
I also picked up a Sigma 300mm f/2.8 prime and I’m having my Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 delivered on Monday! :), so big smiles all week next week...

But seriously, the 70-200 VRII is rapid at focus and extremely sharp. You’ll not be dispointed

Rgds
Bri... :)

Super Mod
I had mis read the info, I was debating between the 80-200 non-VR and the new 70-200 VRII.
But for now, I,ll just keep using my very good 70-300 VR.
Thanks all.
