thinking of switching my kit lenses 18-55 and 55-200 for a Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28-300

Why are you so tired of changing lenses? There is no "do it all lens" as far as I'm concerned. What would you gain in having only one lens? What pictures have you missed because you didn't have the right lens on?
I have too many lenses and camera bodies, but I'd rather have too many than not enough. But, that's just me… :)

i was looking at this lense for closer shots, birds Etc. mostly for an all around lense. if an eagle lands in a tree near by and all i have on is my 18-55 then im gonna say. " sure wish i had my longer lense on" this lense would be the one traveling in my car with me. i would probably keep the 18-55 but sell the 55-200.

I wouldn't do it. I have a 35mm & 50mm prime lenses and I still use my 18-55 from time to time. Don't rely on one lens. The more the lenses the better. I have AF and manual focus lenses and still have 4 other lenses on my wish list

i also want to go farther then 200mm with my camera. But,i dont ant to spend a lot. i would even shoot manual with it if i could get farther. i ws looking at 3rd party sigmas or tamrons to get the reach. Even this lense would work for me eventhough i would have to manual focus.

If you want birds then 300mm is to short,IMO..
I have the nikon 70-300 vr i love it ,but for small birds it is to short..
The SIGMA 150 -500mm os is a good choice IMO..
I have it also.

I have the Nikon 28-300 on a D90. About a year ago I too was looking for a "all in one lens" this is not it on a FX body. On a bright sunny day this lens can produce some great shots, however it is a light eater. On a DX body you can up your ISO to compensate for the loss of light and the higher DX bodies can handle the higher ISO better than the FX bodies can. I don't think it's a good move.

If you really want one, and don't want to listen to our advise I could cut you a deal on the one I have, I'm almost willing to part with it. My lens arrived before my clear filter did and the first day I had the lens I scratched the protect coating on the lens near the outside rim with my lens cap. It does not show up in any of the images when used but cosmically it's there, I'll never get near out of it what I paid for it, not even used.

I watched this video about a year ago and here I am now writing this.
