Tamron 150-600mm G1 vs. G2

I'm planning on renting a Tamron a little later in the year for an event. Rental agency only has the G1. Thoughts of the G1 in this case? Last event I rented the Nikon 200-500mm, which is fine, but I think a little shorter minimum focal length will help in some of the planned shooting locations, and I wanted to test a Tamron anyway, as I will consider which to buy next year. I just purchased a Tamron 70-200mm 2.8 G2, and for that, I'm pleased at the lens thus far.

Well, it may be a moot point, although I don't mind thoughts on the 2 Tamrons.

I found another rental outlet that has the G2 version for the same price, and will be renting from them instead.

@wev and @Woodyg3 might be able to give you opinions on both. If I remember correctly, the first version had a lot of issues. I think both members used both versions. However, Woody has been encountering a recurring issue with the second version.

I recently sent my Tamron 150-600mm G2 back to Tamron for examination and hopefully replacement after having sent it i for repairs twice since I bought it in October. In the mean time I got theNikon 200-500 and find it to be much better in every espect. BUT, that may simply be because I got a bad copy of the Tamron.

The body shapes are a little different.
