Tamron 100-600mm or Sigma 150-600mm?

For an upcoming safari, which lens would you recommend, the Tamron 100-600mm or the Sigma 150-600mm?

Pros and cons of each?

I'm trying to not bring more than 2 lenses with me, the other being a Rokinon 14mm

Both will be paired with a D3400.

Thanks for any insight!

Welcome to the forum.

I take it your talking the Tamron G2 version against the Sigma C version, against the first version of the Tamron i would have said the Sigma i think i would put the Tamron G2 above the Sigma though.

My wife has the Tamron 150-600mm G2 and I have a Sigma 150-600mm C that I bought used. They are both used on D7200s and I cannot tell any difference in quality between the two; sometimes her photos are better, sometimes mine are. The Tamron has better weather sealing, but my Sigma has gotten rained on a few times without any problems. I see used Sigma C lenses for $595.00 in my local camera store.

Wow, a Rokinon 14mm and a Tamzooka will be your two lenses? I have both of those. There's quite a gap between the two.

I haven't been on a real safari, but using the Tamzooka at the San Diego Safari Park from a moving tram, I got a lot of good images.

Are you going to Kenya? Have a great trip!

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.
We look forward to seeing more posts and samples of your work.

I am assuming you mean a Tamron 150-600mm. This being the case, there have been so many issues with this Tamron lens, I chose the Sigma and could not be happier.

I chose the Sigma 150-600 C version also and am quite happy with its performance. Ultimately choose what you feel best will suit your needs and your budget.
I bought mine at Adorama new for just under 1k. If you feel comfortable purchasing used there may be some deals available. As for me I wanted to have the warranty
incase something went amiss. Good luck in whatever you choose and have a wonderful trip!

I shoot a Tam G2 (never tried a Sigma) and have had good results. I know a couple of folks who have grumbled about Sigma support. While I can not verify their issues, I can say that Tamron support is second to none.

i chose the 50-500 Sigma the only other choice at that time was the Sigma 150-500 lol. Other than a loose screw around the mounting plate i had never had an issue with it. Starting to look at the 60-600 Sigma.

This is what I can contribute from a Swedish test (a seller that usually performs reliable tests):
Sigma is a little sharper in the center and have higher contrast at 600 mm. Tamron has the better shake reduction (at least one stop better). Sigma has slightly faster AF.

I'm using the Sigma C and from my experience so far I can say that the shake reduction works very well. This was shot handheld at 600 mm, 1/60, f6.3 with an APS-C body. No crop, no sharpening.
