I just came back from my great vacation and I tell you that the 17-50 was and is a great walk around, The 70-300 complimented the 17-50 wonderful.

Father in Law had the 18-200 I just tried and than told him that it is not for me. But on his D5600 it was great. I just missed sometimes a 10-20 wide, but not that much.

To suggest which is right for you is very difficult. I think you have to look up for the weight as well.

Mike, my suggestion is to do a forum search on the Nikon 18-140mm lens. That one gets positive comments from members although it's not a lens I've ever tried myself. But if I was in the market for a DX lens, that's where I would start looking first.

Last summer we bought a used Tamron 16-300mm for Robin to use and she has enjoyed it. However, right after getting it we noticed a hesitation when it was autofocusing and took it back. They didn't have another lens to trade it for, but Sigma had just put their 18-300mm DX lens on sale for the same price. It has been on backorder for the past six months, but they finally got one in for her. We will pick it up this week and I'll let you know how she likes it.

My everyday camera and lens is a D7100 and a 18-140mm. This combo sits in my car "have camera will travel" it is the right fit for me. I took it on a trip to Arizona early this year and it did very well for me. A refurnished unit here would fit into your budget.

Since you already have a 100-400mm I would also suggest an 18-140. Great lens. I made a lot of a good use with it when I was shooting my D7100.

Well, I still use my 18-200 original version.
At $100 used prices these days I'm keeping it on my car camera.
Upgrading from my old but useable $20 70-210.

Been looking at the few images i have taken with it and i wonder if i should hang fire until i get some decent light, i know it will never be the sharpest but with my hand holding now i could take the edge off anything.

I took the 18-200 back yesterday to change for something else, i do like the range of it so i took another 18-200 to try.

The VR looks good, while not perfect this isnt bad for 1/6th hand held.

This lady wouldnt look at me when she noticed the camera, will try this one out in some better light if we ever get any.

Hi,

with my D850 I use a Tamron 28-300 VC PZD as my walk around lens.
That's a good lens. Delivers decent pics, good reach and fast enough.
I just bought the Z7, with the use of its FTZ adapter, the Tamron fits and is working very good.
Of course, at a crop camera, you will have quite a lot less at the wide end.

I’ve owned the 18-200 and 16-85 and I like both of them when I had them.

If I were in the market today for a walk about DX lens I’d look at the 16-80, they have a cult following.
