AF-P vs AF-S
How much better is a AF-S with VR than a AF-P both 70-300 both 4.5-6.3 used on a D7200. Is the AF-S worth $50.00 will I notice much difference in results at say 250 to 300

Nikon does seem to have an ongoing love affair with the 70-300mm with, what, five such models? More to the point you may see a difference between these lenses but not, specifically, because of the focus motor used. How each of these lens will perform at the long-end on your particular DX body is worthy of researching. The stepper-motor used on AF-P lenses is, generally speaking, pretty snappy and very, very quiet. This is completely independent of the overall image quality of the lens itself however.

There is an AF-P with and without VR. You probably don't want the one without VR. If you get the AF-P with VR it is my understanding that the VR can't be turned off on the D7200. So you may want to opt for the AF-S VR.

So as I understand the answers the only difference between the Nikon AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR and the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR is that the VR cannot be turned off on the lens on the P model?

Here are some links that might be helpful.
This is a review of the 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E AF-P VR. But half way down the page it list the 5 current 70-300 models.

Only with the 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G AF-P VR DX version can the VR not be turned off on the d7200. The 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G AF-P DX version has no VR.
Yes, it is confusing. Hope this was helpful.Texas Thanks/liked this post
