300mm f/4 PF VR issue?

I haven't used it on the D850, but have used it on the D810.
I typically don't shoot that slow of a shutter speed with this lens, but did find one image that was shot hand held at 1/60 and f/4 that did not have any issues with sharpness. Otherwise, I'm typically shooting this lens at least at 1/250 or higher when hand held.
From what I've heard, there was an issue with early builds of this lens, but that Nikon had made a change to compensate. My copy of this lens is just under a year old, so would have been from the updated batch.

Its a nice lens,easy to carry and handle while walking, when the big glass just won't do. Carried one on my D850 a few months ago on a Galapagos trip. Issues you are talking about should have all been cleared up, as problem was on early models. This is a nice sharp lens, well worth the price IMO.
