Tamron 150-600 best on D7100 or D800?

I been using a D7100 for a while (very happy with it) with a Tamron 150-600. I've been lucky enough to now acquire a D800. I may be asking a daft question but is the lens likely to be better on one camera over the other? As I see it the Tamron is not designated specifically as a DX lens so, on the D7100, you get the "extra zoom" effect due to the crop sensor but at 24Mp. On the D800 the lens would be at the stated focal length but now resolving at 35Mp. Do the two factors cancel each other out or is there something else thai've missed? I intend to keep both cameras as I happen to think they both advantages in certain situations. Thank you!

I think this is something you will need to test for yourself,it may be if you crop a DX area out of the D800 you could get better results, wouldn't like to guess the answer though.

I've used the Tam on the D7200 and D810 and it really didn't make that much difference, pixel-wise. Yes the pixel-density is slightly in favor of the DX but unless you always can fill the frame, that doesn't mean much.

In the end I preferred the Tam on the FX because it did focus better and delivered slightly better quality.

Having just carried out a comparision using both bodies the result is, as suggested, much closer than you might expect. Overall the Tamron does seem to perform just a little bit better on the D800 and there wasn't the advantage in picture quality after cropping in favour of the DX that I might have expected. I'm thinking that any technical advantage either way could easily be lost to poor technique.
