Nikon 200-500 with TC

I've tested the 200-500 with a TC14 on the D810. Wasn't a good test because of the weather and flat lighting, but worked fine at f/8. I've been meaning to retest, but haven't had much reason.

I am trying to decide to go with the 200-500 with the 1.7TC to shoot with my D750 or buy the D500 and shoot it with my Tamron 150-600. You shoot the D500 soooo....

Is anyone using the 200-500 with a teleconverter and if so how good is it working?

i was using it (kenko 1.4) some of the time when I only had the D750. If you have good light it works fine. However it is softer with it on then without it. Then I bought a 1.5 TC called the D500.:encouragement:
If you like I can send you my TC to try it out since I no longer need it.

I would definitely buy the D500. However if you do buy the 200-500 for the D750, I would not go over 1.4 with the TC.

I have the kenko 1.4 and it does not work on the Tamron 150-600 Would need the Nikon 200-500 to use it and if i go that route I will get the Nikon TC

I haven't even tried the TC on the D500. Haven't had the need yet. The TC was (for me) to try and get he D810 the reach of a DX camera, without buying the DX camera.

Hm, I have the Kenko 1.4 and it works good with my Sigma 150-600mm on my D7200. Wonder why it won't work with your Tamron?

My Kenko TC does not work with any Tamron lenses...specifically autofocus does not function. The Kenko TC works for my Nikon lenses though, and the Nikon TC works well for them too.

On the Kenko site it says they only work with Nikon and Canon lenses, so if you have one that works you are lucky, my money would be with Pete and a D500 as a 1.5 converter :D

I used the same based on internet review with my 80-400mm new edition. I read it works good for others. Slight post processing sharpening is required.
My personal view is totally different. Picture quality drops a lot. Nikon 80 400 without TC is marvellous with my D500 body. But with TC

I think it depends on the camera and TC. The Nikon II does OK. The newer III I am told does not affect function at all. I have the II and with my 200-500 and on my old D300 I have to have very bright conditions. Works better on my D600. But I haven't had a lot of time using them yet. A friend with a D810 said the II was only good for non moving subjects. But with the III it works just fine even with birds in flight.
