Thought about it... Until I saw the price tag. Still, people will pay it.

I disagree completely. I've never taken the collar off of my Tamron VC and I've shot hockey, soccer and all day softball tournaments with the foot facing down without issue.. If it doesn't work for the author that's one thing, but blanket statements like that are a joke.
"Bokeh Quality" Doesn't Bokeh mean the quality of the blurred circles/balls of light? ;-)
I'd love to have a Nikon 70-200. As I don't make money from my photos and the VC was more in my budget it works for me. The Nikon glass is in the budget for some and I don't blame them at all for buying one. It's only $300 more than the original MSRP for the VRII (which is now down around $1,700)
I think the the meaning of the word has just about morphed now for better or worse, like those other words that used to mean one thing and now mean something else

Time to invent a new word for it. The Japanese for blurry background is Boyaketa Haikei according to Google Translate (which is bound to be grammatically correct, right?). Use one word from the translation, add it to the Wikipedia Bokeh page as the actual word for said effect and a new word is born (that everyone will pronounce incorrectly)
