Howdy and welcome to Nikonites!

I wish I could get over to the Tamron display at WPPI while I'm in Vegas, but it's probably just as well I not be tempted to replace my previous G1 model 70-200. I'm sure the G2 model will have some nice feature upgrades.

This is a bit unexpected, but judging by the press release it will be a significant upgrade to the G1 version. Seeing how the G1 is already close to perfect for me this one should be stunning!
I'm really curious how it compares to the new Nikon 70-200E. I also heard from a store clerk locally that Sigma plans to unveil its' own 70-200 Sports. Fun times ahead :)

Definitely need to see a review of this one. I don't have any problems af-wise with the G1, so it all boils down to how much better it is optically. Oh, and I guess the VC would be a very welcome addition if it works well-I have yet to be impressed with it on my G1.

It looks like the G2s are also adding better weather sealing too? Or did I just imagine that? Seems like there are some construction enhancements and I thought sealing was a part of it. Assuming it's at least as good optically as it's predecessor, that might be a minor value add.

This guy creeps me out & I'm not really sure if his few sample comparison photos he has on Flickr are very telling, but a "review" nevertheless:

Shocking? Really??

I think the only people shocked by reviews like this one are the diehard Nikon gear-heads who live in their self-affirming fantasy-world where Nikon glass is magically superior to anything and everything else on the planet simply by being Nikon glass.

That being said, the dude creeps me out as well... And, like most Youtube reviewers in my opinion, he seems to enjoy the sound of his own voice waaaay too much.

I liked his older reviews when he wasn't shown in the video. I always thought he sounded like Arlo Guthrie.:indecisiveness: (Kid, we found your name on an envelope at the bottom of a half a ton of garbage):)

Seriously, I'm sitting at this wonderful outdoor cafe sipping cappuccino with a table full of die hard Nikon fans in this wonderful fantasy realm. No sooner does the parade start when blamo, torrential downpour.

I knew just where to look for the guy that rained on our parade... Lol

Seriously though, I shoot both tamron and nikkor lenses, and I've also shot sigma. A lot varies from lens to lens of course, but in general I find tamron and nikkor both give excellent images with good sharpness and color contrast.

In general I found sigma to lag behind a bit in color contrast, but this is an observation about several of their zoom lenses I've tried. I've never tried any of their primes or their art series so that might be a completely different ball game.

The one thing I will say for the nikkor though, the generally hold their resell value very well

It is. And you certainly don't need to take my word for it.

Quality, generally speaking, holds its value.

Further, I never said, nor even implied, that Nikon doesn't make some great glass.

More than happy to take your word for it. I don't really have a need for any of the art series, just more money than I'd want to spend on short range primes. Granted I'm sure for some folks they would be well worth it, but I just don't shoot a lot of stuff that isn't medium to long telephoto so for me just isn't worth the price of admission.

Relax. not an attack, just being a bit facetious. Sorry if you took it any other way. In general Tamron makes some really high quality lenses. I've had both the Nikkor 70-300mm VR and the Tamron 70-300mm VC. Of the two I actually preferred the Tamron, so I ended up selling the Nikkor. When I later on sold the Tamron, the Nikkor sold used at a much better price than the Tamron, even though of the two I liked the Tamron more.

Not saying that always occurs, but having bought a fair share of used lenses I noticed that the prices of Tamrons/Sigma's generally goes down a lot more from the new price than a roughly equivalent Nikon lens.

Might not be fair, etc - but it does happen to be true in most instances.
