Nikon 200-500mm Case?

I know that Nikon was doing everything in their power to keep costs down and compete with Tamron/Sigma - but for such an investment, I would have expected it to come with a padded case of some sort - not just the typical "bag"?

And giving it's size, it does not fit into my backpack - so I am looking for something to store/carry this beast in?

What are you guys using?

The cloth bag that came with it. I will be following this thread for what others are using. I have been contemplating something similar to a Pelican case for a lot of my gear.

I don't have that lens but I have the the original Tamron 150-600. Its 11" tall and 5 1/5" wide with the hood and tripod foot. I have the JJC DLP7 case. If the 200-500 are close to the same dimensions it might work for you.

I'm using a Lowepro lens case, something similar to this:

It fits the Tamron 150-600 (which it what I sized it for initially), but the 200-500 fits in there pretty well too.

I don't have that lens but wanted something to carry my Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8. It came with a nice padded bag that has a removable shoulder strap (and I keep it stored in that bag when not in use); however, I wanted something more user-friendly. Wound up getting a Think Tank padded holster and belt. Keeps my hands free yet allows me to carry the lens/body combo in the holster.

This is the XXL bag I'm using for my 200-500. It provides good protection and is very inexpensive. I would have preferred LowePro, but I couldn't find one at the time, and for less than $20, it's a good value.

I bought the Ape Case ACPROLC18.
Works for me.
This guy things it is the 'best"
I don't know about "best" but it is good.
Holds the 200-500 with a D610 or D7100 with or without a Kenko TC

It is shy on pockets. An external pocket for something as simple as a lens cloth would have been nice.
A pocket for that 95mm lens cap would have been nice - if it was a wide enough pocket for a filter that would have been good.

But it works to transport the camera easily.

Which case? There have been several discussed.

Sorry about that, I thought I quoted the case.
The one that does not work is the JJC Case.

I did speak with Kenesis and this is what they said:

For a case w/o body look at the smaller E976 case for this purpose. Or check out the MUCH smaller C750 with a body attached.

E976 ? XXX-Large Lens Pouch

Also the A257 is a small pouch that will attach to the E976 that will hold a body.
And the E976 can also use the backpack straps.

The L311 is designed for a 300/2.8 which is much larger than the 200-500.

The JJC case works very well with my Nikon 200-500 and I recommend it. I keep my lens stored in the JCC.

I insert the lens without the hood and then insert the hood into the case around the slimmer end of the lens. It works. No problem. And again, for less than $20, it's a bargain.

Once I put the hood in, it took 20 minutes to get it out?

Please don't be offended... I bought it in the recommendation, I was hoping it would work and the price was awesome.
I just need something that I can easily pull the lens out and swap on the run.

I wasn't offended in any way. I'm sorry if it sounded that way.

Maybe I got a bigger copy. But in any case it sounded like you would be happier with something else.

Just wanted to mention that this thread is not dead. I have 1 of 3 Kinesis cases and expect the other 2 Tuesday. I'll post thoughts & pics next week.

Same one I use for my Tamron 150-600. I do have to put the hood on backwards to put it in the case. It is very well made and for the price it is great
