Good Morning Listers,

I have an older, old?, manual focus Nikon 135mm 2.8 lens that I would like to use on both a D7000 and D700. Is there a manner of getting this lens set to work on these cameras? A conversion of some sort?

The units also has a floppy built-in hood. ???

Please comments and suggestions !

Thank You

John

You need to provide the full nomenclature of the lens. If it is an original F mount (non-AI) then it needs to be modified to use on your cameras. A non AI lens has the tab or "rabbit ears" to couple the aperture to the body.

Sorry for any confusion !

Certainly not interested in an auto focus conversion but please I wish to use the lens on a D700 and 7000 at least for metering. I think it might also give a focus indication in the finder. At present do NOT think this lens can be mounted on the cameras.

Yes,

The lens has the “old” rabbit ears not the “new ears with the holes permitting light to pass for the small numbers. This lens has only one set of aperture numbers.

Here are a couple of links that might help. Also check used cameras like KEH, Roberts, even some eBay and naturally B&H, Adorama, and Camera for used lenses.
I picked up a 300MM F/4.5 ED AIS lens and really like it and IT does slow you down!

Even the AI lenses continued, for a very long time, to have the “rabbit ears”, in order to allow them to properly couple with older non-AI cameras.

Then it's a non-AI lens. As both your D700 and your D7000 have AI coupling tabs, you will need to have the AI modification done to that lens before you can safely use it on either camera. If you try mounting this lens to either body without that modification, then you risk damaging the body.

I do not know who currently does the mod. However, you have one suggestion above. Nikon used to do it, but don't know if they still do. Also, you might want to research what your old lens is worth if you sell it. It could be worth a lot more if it is NOT modified. If so, you might want to sell it as is and buy some newer glass with the proceeds.
