AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm mount issue

Hi
mounting AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm lens on any camera body is not fitting tightly, you can feel slightly loose, if you hold the camera body in one hand and with other hand try to rotate the lens (like removing or mounting direction) you feel it is not properly tight. I tried 24-120mm lens on the same camera body it fits properly. It means 200-500mm lens have some defect. Is anybody facing this kind of problem? If you are not noticed yet, please try it.

Seems that the mount is not seating properly. Take the lens out and check for any obstruction in the mount. At times little pieces of plastic or other foreign material are stuck (mostly from packaging) at odd places. Clean the mount with a tooth brush and then try again.

In case that does not solve the problem, then you have to return/exchange it. If you have bought the lens at a retail outlet, take it back to them and ask for a replacement. If bought online, just return it.

Dont own a 200-500 but some long lenses do have a slight movement when fitted,if you hang on a few 200-500 owners will be along

Like Danno, mine fits on my 7200 (or my other bodies) like all other lenses. Before I got my 70-200VRII, I owned a 80-200 and periodically the tiny Phillips screws at the connecting end would come loose and needed to be tightened. I could tell because the connection to the camera was not tight.

checked and cleaned as per your suggestion...but, problem not solved, so, I went to Nikon authorised service centre, they assured me nothing will happen, they said it is normal thing with the long and heavy lenses... but still i am worried ... it can damage barrel of camera body or lens.

How much movement do you notice. I have the 200-500 and mounted on my D7100 there is a slight amount of movement. Having not owned or used such a heavy lens before I assumed it was something to be expected as the feedback from Nikon suggested. I wasn't too concerned about it but now you've got me thinking.

I had the same on my Sigma 50-500, I read on here about a year ago it was common on some an not others, so I left it alone, two weeks ago I noticed a huge movement on it, looked closely at it and 3 of the 4 small screws needed tightened, a $1 glasses kit from the dollar store did the business, now no movement at all.

I see this an old thread, but I too have been experiencing problems with my 200-500 lens. It looses connection regularly now giving me a f/0 on my camera and stops focusing. It is loose on both my D500 and D7200. Leads me to wonder what is actually going on with this lens if multiple people are experiencing related issues. My gear is about 2 years old.

Are you using a strap that fastens to the tripod mount? Or are you using a strap that fastens to the lug nuts on the body? If it's the latter, that would put stress on the mount.
