Testing the VR on the Nikkor 200-500mm lens

I just got home an hour ago, and the lens was waiting for me. Mrs Blacktop signed for it earlier while I was still at work. Needless to say, I will not be having a home cooked meal tonight.:loyal:
Oh well, sacrifices must be made.

I took a few shots from the swivel office chair that I'm sitting in to test out the VR. I'm more than impressed to say the least. Also no problems focusing in a dimly lit room, but I did have it on my D750 and that thing will focus in pretty much any lighting situation.

These are all handheld shots . No post processing at all except WB adjustments. No other sharpening than whatever LR applies at import.

Very impressive, hope you get some decent weather for your trials.

I'll be going out to where I know there will be some gulls hanging out this weekend. I also promised @Danno that I would take some shots of the boathouse that he liked .. So I kill 2 birds with one stone.
Must remember not to drop this lens on my foot!

What would you like to know?
The lens is not light. It is heavier than the Tamzooka, but not so heavy as I would have trouble holding it for a while. I have never used such a large lens before so I will have to get used to it. Never even had a lens with a tripod collar before. It will be interesting how it will do on Emmylou.

The heavier than the Tamron comment is whats held me back on one,the VR will be better but if i found it heavier then that could be a trade of that leaves me with no benefit.

I can understand your reasoning. The thing that kind of worried me about the Tamzooka is, that when I was trying out @RockyNH's lens , as soon as I aimed it into the darker parts of the woods to try and shoot some birds, it would start hunting and took a while to lock focus. It was fine in the sunnier areas.
I will give it a good workout this weekend.

It's 1 AM over here. The lens is resting, Emmylou and Dolly just finished taking a bubble bath together, and I'm off to bed in a few. You're just going to have to wait till Saturday the earliest.:)

WOW, what a beast. I am impressed with the office shots anxious to see the dock etc. I am anxious to hear how it focuses in low light compared to your experience with the Tamzooka... Congratulations on your latest purchase. If nothing else it looks cool the way it sits on the coffee table all by itself

This is of course if Mrs Blacktop allows him to wake up:D

QUOTE]

There is a story of Willie Nelson, the country singer, who fell asleep one night and one of his wives sewed him up in the bed sheet and beat on him with a broom stick... I hope you are not inferring anything THAT extreme ;)
