Has anyone played with a Nikon 400mm f2.8 + TC20E III?

It would be interesting to see some sample images if anyone has used this setup. Trying to decide if one day I want to spend my next house down payment on a killer telephoto arrangement instead. ;)

Yes. But doing so doesn't also give one a 400mm @ 2.8, nor 800mm with the TC. I don't like to have to crop as tightly as I find myself needing too at 600mm a lot of times. Having the option of 400/2.8 is pretty spectacular too.

A 400mm f/2.8 must indeed be wonderful to shoot but the TC2.0 seriously affects IQ which forces you to downsample if you want to maintain the same quality.

A TC1.4 only costs some % of loss but a TC2.0 is meh.

That's why I'd like to see some samples of the combo. From what I've seen on some shorter 2.8 telephotos the TC2 doesn't seem to degrade IQ that badly when stopped down a few extra stops from wide open.

you could try a search in "flickr" or another photo site. i would think renting would be your best bet, you would have the unprocessed shots to judge, i think anything you would see on the internet has been processed.

This will likely never ever happen but crazier things have happened in my lifetime.
