I just got back from the store and here the lens is probably available in April. That crap annoys me immensely. April can be the first or the last of the month and probably can be maybe not. It usually is. It's the same story as the Sig Sports which is still not available here.

I guess I got a tough decision to make. In the 300mm are only two other options and if I'd decide for the f/2.8, I wonder if I should not go down the rabbit hole even deeper and pick one size larger. Or I have to say *@##!! and be satisfied with what the Big Tam delivers. Which is rather difficult at the moment. Maybe I'll grow out of it but I have no high hopes.

No matter how good or not the tamron is it will not match a good prime most of the time, you already know this its the tamron for convenience or a over priced prime for quality,so spend the money and let us see what the primes can do :D

The problem is being confronted with the difference every day. ;)

I'm shooting the Tam as were it a prime since it takes a whole lot to fill my frame and that forces me to shoot her at the long range most of the time. I have her about always at 400 right now but each time I upload the shots and go through them, I am not very satisfied. That's not because of this Tam but because of the other. My 200mm micro is as sharp but she's too slow to use for birding so I wasn't as often confronted with the differences.

I'm checking the used market here but long primes aren't for sale that often. If you got one, you usually keep it or already know someone that wants it. I also don't feel like going to the gym six days a week until I can shoot some primes handheld. I don't like dragging along a pod for birding.

April is only some weeks so I will give it until then and if there is no word about the 300mm, I'll pick another and be done with it.

I'm going to give the Big Tam a second chance tomorrow.

I tried her on the D3300 today but that was disappointing. I had some hope the resolution advantage could lower the IQ loss but I have the impression she should be fine-tuned for the D3300 which sadly lacks that option. Focus just isn't right.

So I tested the Tam again on the D750 and dot-tuned her solely at the 420mm lock and will shoot her as a prime tomorrow. If that delivers good results, I'll wait on the new 300mm.

I checked the other lenses and most are simply too heavy to shoot handheld. They're all fantastic but I'd need to hire a Sherpa to carry my gear around.
