Finally got my Tamzooka today.

After a mix up by a lost Fed Ex driver caused it's delivery to be set back four long days, it was finally delivered tonight. Not a whole lot I can do with it in the living room but everything appears to be working perfectly, even after sitting in the back of an unheated van for four days in freezing temps. Anxiously looking forward to seeing some birds in the viewfinder tomorrow!

Thanks Blacktop, from everything I've read and from the images I've seen produced by it, I think I'm gonna love it.

Thanks Marilynne, it's a bit heavier than the 80-400 but it doesn't feel too bad just playing around with it here in the house. I may be wrong but I don't think I'm gonna have any trouble shooting it handheld as long as I have enough light to dial in a decent shutterspeed. But I'm looking at tripods too though for those times when I do need one, cause what I have now isn't going to be up to the task.

You are going to LOVE LOVE LOVE it :D Looking forward to seeing some shots. You'll not likely have any problem handheld. If I can do it anyone can!! :D

In spite of it's weight, to me it feels balanced attached to the 7100. Just feels good. Unless the weather stops me I hope to have some pics to post up by tomorrow evening. My wife will be shooting the 80-400 at the same birds under the exact same conditions so I'm also looking forward to comparing the two, although of course it's a bit unfair comparing them due to the size difference , but I'm just curious how they'll stack up against one another. I really love the 400 and no matter what the results are, my mind won't change about that. Just wanting the extra range the 600 should give me.

If you shoot the Tamzooka at 400 and compare it to the 80-400, I think you'll be surprised how sharp the Tamron is at 400. it does soften up a bit at 600, but it still produces some great results. Have fun!
