Sigma 150-600 in customers hands

I read a review some days ago and they're not bad.

I ordered one but am curious how long it takes. I first tried the Tamron but none could even tell me how long it would take before I could get one. I said scrwit and try my luck with the Sigma first hoping most will wait on the cheaper.

I shot with this at the PhotoPlus show and it's a phenomenal lens. About 6lbs, so it's not an easy carry (it's 45% heavier than the Tamron), but if you're shooting with a tripod or monopod it's not an issue.

I was wondering about the weight but the Sigma is 2860 grams while the 200mm f/4 I'm using is about 1200 grams without the hood. I shoot that one single handed while walking the dogs with the other.

It's unlikely I'll do the same with the Sig but with two hands, it should be tolerable.

I've been waiting for this lens to come out. Unfortunately Canon users are the first to get them. Supposedly Sigma products outperform Tamron so we'll see how this one compares.

My money is on the sport being better and the lesser one on par with the Tamron.

I just got word about my lens. Sigma could not deliver before March 2015. Excuse me?

Tamron however could deliver (normally) next week. Too bad for Sigma I guess but I'll switch to the Tamron.

The Sport ($1999) or the Contemporary($999)? The latter isn't out yet, so the date doesn't surprise me. The former? They were shipping Nikon mounts at the beginning of the month, but if they're all gone and backordered it's bad news for you but a pretty impressive response and overall very good news for Sigma.

The sport version. I'm amazed they launch a product and then tell you that it takes close to five months before you can have one. I assumed many would wait on the C version. Maybe they do and Sigma simply can't manufacture fast or plenty enough.

The Tamron might be a bit less sharp but I don't care that much. The price difference is good for maybe another FX lens.

My dealer let me know yesterday one of the first Sigmas in Nikon mount to arrive in Canada is now on its way to me. It should arrive today or tomorrow. I already have the usb dock, so once I get 'er tuned to my camera, I'll post images comparing the Sigma to my Tamron.

How much more did the sigma cost than the tamron,i expect the sigma to win

For twice the price one could surely expect it to score better. The contemporary will have to make the difference since that will directly compete with the Tamron.

I would have bought it but more on availability than sport. It might have been a better choice since I can be rough-handed and the tougher lens, the better. Alas, I don't want to wait five months on a vague promise.

But for sharpness alone I'd not have bought it.

My Tamron cost about $1,300 CDN, the Sigma was $2,300 CDN. I do a lot of wintertime photography under extremely challenging conditions. This is where I expect the Sigma's better build quality to pay for the price difference. A bonus for me is the Tamron is still in short supply here, so I can easily resell that lens, and get my investment back.

A note for fellow Canadians: I ordered my Sigma from Vistek. By ordering from outside the province, I'll save about $180 in PST, plus I believe Vistek could get this lens much sooner than any of my local dealers, who typically wait until they have a number of requests, before sending orders to their distributers.
