Scott, you are really making me impatient about getting one of these. I just wish more were coming into the country. No-one locally has any :(

Hey Jeff, @Grandpa, looks like you really like this lens. Can I ask for one more crop of the above picture, say just crop it down do the just the bird with very little nest.

Also, curious of how this compares to your 70-200 f2.8 and TC. Have you done any comparisons yet or do you have any thoughts on the results you are seeing.

I cropped it and tried several times to post it and it just refused to go. Just think what this lens would do if I used a tripod!!! I might add that this lens is quiet and focuses fast and is very sharp.

For the longer lengths I will definitely be using the Tamron over the 70-200VR with the 2x teleconverter. I will remain using the Nikon 70-200VR when appropriate for that lens.

Kevin, I would like to add some information to think about. When you take a Nikon F2.8VR lens and add a 2x teleconverter it will become a F5.6 all the way through from 140mm to 400mm. Now lets compare the Tamron.

Nikon F2.8 70-200mm with 2x teleconverter is F5.6 max all the way through.

Tamron
F5 up to about 190mm
F5.3 up to about 200mm
F5.6 up to about 250mm
F6 up to about 340mm
F6.3 from about 340 to 600mm
To get these readings I was setting at my computer and pointed the lens toward a lamp on my desk with my camera in aperture priority mode and just started my lens at 150mm and went to 600mm to get these readings.

A lot of people are concerned about the speed of this lens. You can see that it actually is faster than the Nikon with the 2x teleconverter.

Shortly I will be starting a new thread and give you my observations of this lens. It will not be a scientific review because I am not qualified to do that but it will tell you what I have observed about this lens by me using it. I might add that I do also own the Nikon 70-200VR and the 20E III 2X teleconverter.
