Cheap zoom lens

Now I am going to a gymnastics event in late august and would like a nice lense for it. Right now the only lenses I own are the kit lens and a 50mm 1.8g lens. The thing is although I'm sitting in very good seats I don't think I will have quite enough zoom to get what I want.

The other thing is I'm 14 and don't have any real job so I'm on an extremely tight budget.

My budget is 100-150 used refurbished doesn't matter to me eBay links would be greatly appreciated

A 55-200 is not a bad lenses at all. I used to use mine all the time until I got my 55-300. You can find good deals on one of those.

You may not be able to get a warranty with it. I found one that does have a warranty.

Overall what do you think is my best bet the 70-300 and the 55-200 both are In my budget is the extra 75ish dollars worth it for the 70-300

That really depends on what type of shooting you do. If you like taking pictures of birds and other wildlife the 300mm gives you a better advantage of getting in closer. If it's an occasional thing like you were saying then a 55-200 is good enough. The 70-300 has a slightly better clarity then the 55-300. Though I like my 55-300 and I think it does a great job.

I think in the end the 55-200 is my best bet gymnastics is my main use for a large zoom and when I do get a job I'll end up moving up bodies and bigger and better things so for now I think a solid budget lens fits the bill thank you for your help

What does grey mean?

Grey is short for Grey Market, which is a product designated for a market other than, for me, the USA. It is likely priced less than a product designated for the USA, even though it is likely identical in every way to the USA product.

As far as Nikon products are concerned, Nikon USA provides no warranty or service to grey market products. If you have one and it malfunctions, you'll have to find someone to work on it outside Nikon USA or their authorized dealers.

I'm sure that there are other points of information on grey market products, but I believe these are most pertinent to your inquiry.

As far as your gymnastics photo shoot, will it be indoors outside?

If you can access the venue, early, you'll want to do so to see what setting the lighting is going to require. At the longest focal lengths, you're at f5.6 which is likely going to require a high ISO setting to keep the shutter speed fast enough to stop the action.

I'll have plenty of time to play with settings and even a few days just to experiment with some picture angles and such it's a week long event with the two main events happening the last two days

It sounds like an interesting opportunity. Good luck with it, and post some of your shots afterward, if possible.
