Considering a Tamron 70-300 Di VC USD. Any other lens options I should consider?

Based on what I've read on this site, I'm considering getting a Tamron 70-300 Di VC USD. I think it would be a good companion to go with my 18-105 for those times when 105 just doesn't do it. Subjects would include basically anything I happen to be shooting at the time (people, objects, wildlife, travel, you name it). Also, Tamron has a $100 rebate on the lens. Are there any other lens options that I should consider? Thanks.

It seems to be a great lens and pretty much rated on par with the Nikon, even without the rebate the price is good! Anything better or "faster" is going to be much more expensive.

I'm considering three options. The Tamron 70-300, Nikon 55-300 and the Nikon 70-300 for my D3200. Like you I'd want it for a variety of purposes but mainly wildlife. Out of the Nikons I'm leaning towards the 70-300 but the Tamron is so much cheaper it's very tempting. Would be interested to know how it matches up in terms of build quality and AF speed, as well as image quality? I've no intention to go to a full frame camera so being an FX lens isn't a huge selling point to me.
