Good info,
After shooting a Sigma 150-500 for a year, I just recently upgraded to the new 200-400mm VRII. Awesome clarity and tack sharp. It is larger and heavier than the Sigma, but it is doable to hand shoot. I will have to learn to shoot right handed so my left bicep doesn't get larger than my right. :) A 200-500mm would be a good range to get into, I wonder what the cost might be? Nikon makes some really nice glass, but they don't give them away for sure. With a 1.4TC it gives me a range of 280-550mm at a f5.6, and if I take it off I am back to the f4 for the whole 200-400mm range. I was happy with my Sigma until I did a side by side comparison in Yellowstone last Spring with a 200-400mm VR I lens that a guy let me try. The Nikon lens showed alot more fine detail in the shots, and the VR and focusing was much smoother. The Sigma is f5-6.3 and is a real light hog and is almost unusable for early morning or late evening shots. A tripod will help but not if the subject is moving. My D7000 with the higher ISO ability helped, but there was not much that could be done for the sharpness. For me I am really enjoying the f4 range and everything else about the lens, once I got past the price. Just my $0.02 Ken

Nikon 200-500MM lens would be great if its affordable. I have been considering the SIgma 50-500mm for quite some time. I am thinking by next spring. I hope the nikon is out before I make a purchase.
