Nikon AF-s 300 F4 and 1.7x TC

If anyone is wondering about the 300 f4 and it's performance with teleconverters I must say I am continuously impressed with how sharp it is. I have even found the AF to be sufficiently fast with moving subjects. This was with the 300 and 1.7 on a D700 - Shot wide open at f6.7 (widest aperature when paired with the 1.7 TC) 1/1500 of a sec in AF-C mode. My dog was running straight at me and while not all the shots where this sharp, they were all very useable.

Here is the 100% crop... Odd it actually looks a bit sharper in Photoshop before I uploaded it.
The camera reads it as a 500mm on FX, It is actually a 510. I'll do a few more tests stopped down to see what happens.

That is good! I might want to buy a teleconverter sometime when I have some money! :D
I have read its even better with the 1.4 - which i don't have- but a 1.4 on a DX would give you a very sharp 5.6 600mm equivlant for around 1000 - 1300 if you find some nice used ones.
