Just bought one for $84.00

Nikon Nikkor AF-S DX ED 18-70mm F/3.5-4.5 G IF Lens SLR

From the research I did before hand, said that it was the kit lens for the D70.

Was really wanting a mid range zoom like the AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G but the price wasn't coming down yet, even for used ones.

Saw this one on ebay for $74.00 and I thought that I would try and get it if the total with shipping would be less than $100.00.
15 seconds left nobody else was bidding and I nailed it at $84 + 9.50 shipping so I did still get it for less than a hundred.

I understand it doesn't have VR but am hoping it will be good for low light if the D5100 does most of the heavy lifting.

This lens came with my D70s and I love it. It's a gem of a lens and the only DX lens I still own and I've no plans of ever selling it.

Ken, do you know what this would offer over the 18-105??? I may want another lens in that type of range since I have 2 cameras...
It sounds like it would be a good walkaround lens for the 5100... (leaving the 105 on the 7100)

Not really sure what I am getting Pat or the proper technical terminology to use.

My goal was to find an affordable lens that I can zoom in / bring the subject in closer and not have the foreground and background compressed as if I was looking through a straw. The 67mm lens cap is what I am guessing will help get me there -- I hope.

If not, then the as long as the used lens isn't junk, at the price I paid I shouldn't have trouble getting my moneys worth.

I think you will surely get your moneys worth! :)

New to me lens showed up and haven't had much time to play with it.

Was down in the Black Hills the other day and took this shot of Devils Tower way off in the distance.

Handheld in the landscape mode with no post editing. I'm pretty tickled. :)

Finally got to take a few shots with this lens yesterday. I did say a few. :(
Ended up working as a corner flagger for the races instead of snapping pictures but here is one that turned out pretty decent.
