Looking to add a little more reach on the 300mm for motorsport shooting and was considering adding TC-14E II or TC-17E II

TC-14E II would make it 420mm @ f4
TC-17E II would make it 510mm @ f5.6

I'm led to believe you would need to step it down further to improve IQ.

My question is are there users running the above combo and if so,

What kind of IQ degredation are you seeing/getting.
What kind of AF (hunting) issues are you experiencing.
Is it suitable only for bright sunny days.

Cheers

Phil

I too am considering getting a TC-17E II for shooting birds, but I have heard that using one automaticly add 2 f/stops to your camera settings. So the brighter and sunnier the day would be a definite plus.

I would really like to be able to tell you...I have the IF AF 300mm F4 and put a x2 tamron converter on it and the image quality suffered as well it had C A

I have ordered a Kenko 1.4 for it now...

600mm @ f8, im told you loose AF altogether.

At that fstop i would imagine you need to crank up the iso in certain situations which would mean an introduction of noise.

With the Nikon converter yes, but not with the Tamron..This is a pretty old one and it AF ed with it but slow...

I only took a few shots with it as said, the Chromatic Aberration was to much..
