Here is a helpful one from Scott Kelby: WHIMS

We've all done this. We get to a great location and we're excited about getting the shot...maybe it's even one of those once in a lifetime photo ops. We leap out of our cars, grab our gear, and start snapping away. We check our LCD screen and our hearts sink. Turns out the shot was ruined because we were shooting at ISO 1600. We forgot to change our camera settings back from the night before.

Make it a habit of using WHIMS to check your settings before you head out for the day:

  • White Balance.
  • Highlight clipping warning.
  • ISO.
  • Mode. JPEG or RAW.
  • Shooting selection. AP, SP, M, etc.
As a side note, the H (highlight clipping warning) is a feature you can access while reviewing your images in playback mode. Potential blown out areas are highlighted and will flash in your LCD display.

That's a good one Anthony.

I'll add a couple simple ones:

AF-S - Auto Focus Silentwave
CMOS - Complimentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor
DOF - Depth of Field
DSLR - Digital Single Lens Reflex camera
EXIF - Extended Information
HDR - High Dynamic Range
ISO - International Standards Organization
LCD - Liquid crystal display

WTD = What the Duck. This is the only comic strip I know of dedicated to photographers.
