I would go for the 50 f 1.8 mainly for cost reasons, if you open up the f 1.4 wide open the DOF is very very shallow, not great unless you are wanting the tip of a nose in focus and the rest out. The 1.8 is a great lens especially for the $.
Why do you want to replace your d90? Is it functioning well or are you having issues with it? Perhaps just looking for a newer model with some updates?
I am not sure what lens your currently using on your d90, but why another camera? & I would recommend the 35mm f1.8 another fantastic lens to consider, & at $199 plus tax a no brainer. It also can focus to within 9 inches so it can be sort of a micro lens too.
I have the AF-S 50mm f/1.8 G and it's a sweet lens. The money you save could be used towards the D7000 (I think the D3200 would be side step rather than a upwards step considering you have a D90 already)
Ty, everyone. I , after reading many responses, decided to just get some decent "glass" as all the pros and or more experienced shooters put it here. The 50.8 it is! I was thinking the 85 1.8 so that i could get more distance with the pups?
Why not get another D90 if you really need another body. Same battery, charger, controls… Some food for thoughts.
And the 50 1.8 is the better bargain and for dogs, even 1.4 is too shallow of a Depth Of Field.
