What would be the best settings to use to take the blue moon on aug-31-12?
me setup is D5100 with a 55mm-300mm lens?

Same settings you use for the moon at any given time. Start at F16 with ISO (I like 200 in this situation) matching shutter speed and adjust from there using the histogram...chimp it...readjust it...chimp it again and check out the histograms...does anyone see me talking about histograms a lot here lately? LOL

DSC_0127AP1.jpgNot the best. But my first attempt with the D7000. This is shot handheld no tripod. I just wanted to see how this camera differs from my old one. I could use a bit longer zoom lens. Perhaps next purchase? This was shot in Manual Mode, Mode F/5.6, shutter speed 1/250, ISO 100 Matrix Metered

I got this one with my 18-300mm using a tripod and wireless remote. 280mm, ISO 100, f/11, 1/100" and tungsten WB.

I used f/11 to maximize detail and contrast and ISO 100 for better detail. Full manual mode.
