New grand baby want a new lense!

I want a new low light lense to take pictures of my new grand baby.I am looking at the 17-55, 35-70,28-70, all2.8. Any suggestions?

depend on how large of a lens you want to carry? look at filter size, weight, and length. Personally, I like the 35-70 for sharpness and size.

I have the the 28-70mm and love it...

Which camera do you have? How much is your budget?

If you are shooting DX and prefer using available light, try the Nikon 35mm f1.8DX for $200. Use a tripod for a steadier, blur free shot.

D70 camera budget less than 1500.00.

50mm 1.8 and 35mm 1.8 and 85mm 1.8. These 3 for less than your budget.

I'd second what Marcel has said, I really would stay away from wide angle lenses for portrait work, they don't make very flattering photo's

35's and 28's have been used by Paparazzis for a long time and they mainly shoot portraits really. The key thing is you don't want to use a wide angle for close up shots (eg head and shoulder work) because of the distortion factor.

Google Ron Galella and Peter Borsari for a look at some old school Nikon Wide Angle Paparazzi Portraits...I am sure you will recognize some of the subjects.
