Managed to get my first stars tonight.. Not got a tripod yet so camera was held against the wall and fired :)

Images are not super sharp but not a bad effort me thinks

Not come out as clear as I hoped they would.

Some hints and tips on settings and technique would be most welcome.

Thanks

Re: Help!!

MLU...mirror lock up...or maybe exposure delay with the 3100...find out about that and you are set. I just started a thread on it a day or two ago.

No MLU on the 3100 except when you wan to clean it.

Tried with an exposure delay, didnt get anything on my picture.

Will keep playing about and see what i get :)

I believe if you use Live View it keeps the mirror locked up.

I just checked my 5000...on live view the mirror stays up.

So perhaps Live View and a timer=no vibration.

Not strange at all. The human eye does not pick up color nearly as well as the camera.

People are always disappointed when they view objects through my 8" telescope. "Where's the color?", they always ask. I have to explain that it's only when you use long-exposure photography that you get the pretty colors they are used to seeing in pictures.
