Does anyone have or used this lens before and if so how is it? I stumbled across this while Internet shopping and it is a stunningly low price with some pretty good reviews. I'm holding out for my Tamron 70-300mm VC lens bit wasn't sure if I should pick This little gem up to have in the kit bag. Thanks

well, if the price is low, why not. You can always resell if it does not live up to your expectation, or keep it as a backup.

I have liked Sigma, and I doupt if the quality is much different than the 55-200 Nikkor, and will just be missing the VR.

First, i would like to say that it's your money, so i can not tell you what to do. That being said, i am not to sure why you would buy both a 70-300 and a 50-200. You are overlapping your focal lengths. You already have an 18-50, so once you have the 70-300, you need to make up 20mm. 20mm is how many steps forward or backward? It just does not make sense to have both. But again, it's your money;)

sounds like the 50-200 is a steal, so,, buy, and resell when you get the 70-300, Another lens to consider is the 55-300 VR. These lens go on sell once in a while, I got mine for an amazing price of 260 on Amazon (one of those lightning 2 day sells). I have found the 55-300 VRII matches quite well for my D7000.

Yes 159.00 new from amazon for the 50-200. I can get the 70-300 Tamron for 299 used. Both have their own kind of image stabilization. I know having 2 lenses with almost the same focal length seems foolish, but one of them is quite small for times when I don't want to have a big telephoto on.

50-200 is 4" long when retracted
70-300 is 4.7" long when retracted
