Photo Resolution

Hi! I recently purchased a used D700 and I noticed that when I take horizontal portraits, the large jpeg setting allows me to order pictures in high resolution. However, for the vertical shots, the resolution drops significantly (by half) of the horizontal. Is there a setting I should be made aware of for shooting vertical shots? Or could there be something wrong with the camera? HELP.

Curious as to what lens you are using? Is it DX or FX lens. if DX the D700 is at 6 mp.

This is an artifact of your computer. Although your computer is telling you the two images (vertical vs. horizontal) are different sizes, they really aren't. Prove it to yourself by looking at the metadata or by right clicking the image icon and looking at the "details" tab.
