Confused about what works...

I called my local camera shop. The bloke I spoke to had no idea what I was even talking about.

I want a speedlight for my D90. or a similar brand.

Apparently (I read somewhere but now I can't find it) the D90 can be used to trigger the flash when it's not attached by some wireless thing in the camera.

What the?
So which speedlight should I get and how on earth does it work?

He had to check with someone if "speedlights even work for nikons"...

I wanted to slap him through the phone.

Thanks for the link - it explained what I wanted to know in the first few sentences :)

The speedlight connectivity is only for sure on nikon speedlights...
If you want a cheap small light the SB400 is fine ( I use a pair all the time for weddings)
If you want a good bigger light the YN 465.
If you want top of the range epuivalent to 910 then the YN 565 its all singing and dancing for a good price.. and top quality construction
