MC-36 wired remote

My new MC-36 arrived today. The original plan was to use my inexpensive MC-DC2 that goes with my D7000 but of course it does not work on the D800, nor does the inexpensive wireless ML-L3 (go figure). So I ordered the fairly expensive ($179) 10-pin remote MC-36. And as I'm reading over the instructions I get to the part where it says "The MC-36 has no on-off setting"?!? What's up with that? Why would an electronic engineering team capable of designing the finest cameras in the world not put an on-off switch on a battery powered remote? I don't get it...:disturbed:
