Why it is nice ot have video available

I was out shooting at on of my favorite places today. It is a city park along side a river. People strolling on the walks and fishermen lazing along trying to catch a few for supper and along comes this.

That boat was flying! :)

I agree with you - while I LOVE my D700 I do miss it having video (I realize many don't share this view). Luckily I still have my D7000 for just such times. :) Having one device capable of doing both still photography and HD video is such a wonderful luxury.

I was also a Bah Humbug type not long ago, however times have changed. I get paid for what I do be it Photography or web design and sometimes the two are quite integrated. I had the demand to do video twice in one week. I first borrowed a high end video camera and had no succcess with it, built in mike was not adequate, it did not like low light etc etc and a pain to download and capture. Actually ended up using my old Olympus C8080 and got a video down and embedded in a new site. At that point I almost ordered a D7000 thinking how nice it would be to shoot a video and use some nice glass. My next nikon will have it, probably a D400 or whatever replaces the D300 I now use. I must admit I need to have the capability my customers demand, if I didn't sell my work I could also remain Bah Humbug.

I have no problem with video - it's just NOT for me. If it works for you knock yourself out go for it. I have a D3s and I don't know and don't want to know how to use the Video feature same goes for the D7000.
