Nikon AF S 1.4 G 50mm lense

I've just ordered a Nikon AF S 1.4 G 50mm lens and cant wait to get using it. I've never had a prime lens before as my pride and joy at the moment is my 18-200 VRII, so any tips on how to get the best from it. I mainly use my D200 and the 18-200 for outdoor sports shots but I am looking to expand my subject matter hence the 50mm 1.4. I love sharp photos with vibrant colors. Any tips would be appreciated.

I have the 35mm, but I hear the 50mm has much better bokeh and makes a great portrait lens.
