How the Challenge Works
  1. Each challenge will run for 1 (one) week, beginning on Sunday and ending on the following Sunday. This is to give everyone a full weekend of shooting without having to worry about getting home to submit photos in time.
  2. Each week will have it's own thread. The title of each thread will be titled as follows:

    Weekly Challenge [dates]: [subject]
  3. A winner will then be chosen by a panel of judges the result will be posted in a blog entry before the next challenge is issued.
  4. Because scores are composites of a panel and the post "likes", Judges are allowed to participate.
A challenge begins on Sunday and ends one week later, on Sunday.
This weeks challenge, something a little different. This one will challenge your powers of observation! :) I'm curious to see who comes up with what. It might be a little tougher, but I'm sure you'll all rise to the challenge.

Something Old/Something New

Combine something old with something new in the same shot. Use your imaginations and powers of observation on this one. Indoors, outdoors, wherever.....it's up to you. All general rules apply.

The Rules
  1. Photos must be posted to the thread in order to be considered for the challenge.
  2. Any photo submitted for a weekly challenge must be taken during the dates specified in the challenge thread and taken by you! Because not all EXIF data can be verified, we will use the honor system here.
  3. Challenges will be judged solely by the panel. Individual voting will be incorporated into the final selection of the winning photo.
  4. Only one photo entry per member, for each challenge.
There will be no cash or prizes awarded for the Weekly Challenge, unless specifically noted by the site administrator. This is a member-run contest, and the purpose of the Weekly Challenge is to encourage member participation on the forums and to keep you taking pictures!

Any photo will be accepted for the challenge. Edited/straight out of the camera, it does not matter. You are left with complete freedom to do whatever genre of photography you wish to do, and your own interpretation of the challenge subject.

I'll get the ball rolling.

Something old is my dad (92).
Something new my grandson (20mo).

Didn't know what the subject was until I got home. This is an extreem crop from a family photo of 22 people.

Anyway I wanted to get it on first before somebody else used people.

busted out the old nikkormat for this one. . .lol. . .snapped a pic with the d7000, set up the d700 to take the actual pic, pushed playback on the 7000 and shot away. . .had to try different angles to avoid too much glare on the d7000 screen. . . .sb700 bounced off the ceiling. . .(both 50mm 1.4s on the bodies if anyone was wondering. . .lol) thanks for the look. . .

Reflection of the old county building!
the original Macomb County Building (reflection) was built in 1931 for $1 million. It got an $8 million facelift in 1967.

The (old) Kopu Bridge (originally Hauraki Bridge and sometimes Waihou River Bridge)[SUP][1][/SUP] is a single-lane swing bridge that spans the Waihou River, near its emergence into the Firth of Thames in the Thames-Coromandel District of New Zealand's North Island. The bridge was completed in 1928 and was part of State Highway 25. The swinging span in the middle of the bridge is 43 metres long and with an overall length of 463 metres, the bridge was the longest and oldest single lane bridge within the state highway network.[SUP][1][/SUP][SUP][2][/SUP][SUP][4][/SUP]
As the first available crossing of the Waihou River and the main link between the Hauraki Plains and Coromandel Peninsula, it sees a lot of traffic, especially during holidays. Due to a gradual increase in the traffic between Auckland and the Coromandel Peninsula, by the early 1990s the bridge became the most heavily used single lane bridge in the country,[SUP][citation needed][/SUP] with traffic volumes of an average of 9,000 vehicles per day.[SUP][2][/SUP] Traffic flow over the bridge was controlled by traffic lights and the bridge was notorious for queues which form during peak times such as holiday weekends, when three hours delay were common.[SUP][3][/SUP]
Rarely used as boat traffic declined (especially for shipping use, with the river once navigable all the way up to the town of Paeroa)[SUP][5][/SUP] in the latter years before it was closed to traffic, the swing span could still be opened to provide a 15.3 m wide channel to passing vessels.[SUP][1][/SUP]
The bridge is the only surviving road bridge of the swing span type in the country and the New Zealand Historic Places Trust lists the bridge as a Category 1 historic place,[SUP][1][/SUP][SUP][2][/SUP][SUP][6][/SUP] while it is also on the IPENZ Engineering Heritage Register.[SUP][5][/SUP]
In December 2011 a new two-lane bridge opened directly to the south of the old bridge which has been retained for historical reasons.[SUP][7
