In the thread below I posted a picture of a small ivory? Japanese? statue. It's post #565

Does anyone have any info on this piece? I have no provenance. It was a gift from my MIL to my Wife.
MIL has no info about it.

I thinks it's a very nice piece. I use it often to practice up close shots.

It's definitely ivory, and very old! Also, it's not Japanese....it's Chinese. I have a Chinese photographer friend that told me this. Hopefully he's not wrong. :)

I posted a link only on purpose. I read somewhere it was bad form to post the same image twice in one day on photography websites.

hrm, wish I could read that. I would post those pics on an Asian art forum and see if anyone can identify it.
