Cheap 85 mm lens, for portraits

Hi all

I'm looking to add an 85, or alternatively a 50 mm lens to my arsenal, for portrait photos. I have a d3100 atm, but kinda considering moving to d7000.

I know most of the older 50 and 85 mm's won't autofocus on my camera, but for portraits i guess it doesn't matter at all?

So if i want a decent portrait prime, as cheaply as possible(used or new), what version would you recommend?

I have the 35 mm 1/8 g lens already

I would go with one of the old MF 85/1.8's or MF 85/2 Ais...if you stick with the 3100 or 5100 you can use the pre Ai lenses without having to modify them. They are not going to meter or AF on your camera however you can chimp a few shots until you get the exposure right and you can use the electronic rangefinder or magnified live view to focus.

Thanks for the advice

Do you have a link to the actual lenses in question? or just the full "title"; it's a bit tricky doing a search for nikkor 85 mm :)

I just got the Rokinon 85 1.4 this morning and I have to admit it's really nice for the price. Manual focus but sharp even at 1.4.

Here's one of my first shots with it at 1.4
