You can legally put Lightroom (and Photoshop, for that matter) on 2 computers. I checked with them on this issue when I purchased my suite because I wanted to be sure I could put it on my laptop and desktop at the same time.
However, you might want to consider downloading Lightroom 4 beta and use it until it expires. The longer you wait the more likely you'll be to qualify for a free upgrade to Lightroom 4 when it is released.

Before purchasing Lightroom 3, you might consider testing Adobe's Lightroom 4 Beta.
