What have i done??

my flash is not working on my D500, works ok by itself and on my D7000, so i guess i have switched something off on the camera. Any ideas?

Do you have the "Red eye" turned on? Some, maybe all, "red eye" flash settings flash to make peoples' pupils get smaller, so they don't expose as red.

Do you really need to be that drastic?

Drastic is Resetting the camera back to default settings. Making sure you back up all your soft settings of course before hand. Even the custom settings. I think you can save all the soft setting onto an sd card and reload them after

I had to revisit this to get my flash to fire again, i swear i didnt touch it this time??

and the double fire is no longer there.
