Problem with my 3100 camera...

Good evening ladies and gentlemen,

I have a problem with my 3100 camera. A small spot appeared in my viewfinder, however it doesn't appear on the photos or in the LCD display (and yes Pete, I tried to clean the viewfinder...). I'm a bit worried about it. Does anyone has any idea, or should I contact the official service?

Have you cleaned the mirror?

I checked the mirror, but there wasn't anything there and nothing showed in the photos either. I'm a bit buffled here.

Did you check it with a loupe? I would swab the mirror anyway just to be sure. If it's a speck on the mirror it's NOT going to show up on the print. How big is this spot?

I agree, must be dust on the mirror or perhaps on the viewfinder glass. If you look at something bright white (like this screen) you will probably see numerous spots

For now, it's only one spot the size of a small dot. But I don't have anything to clean the mirror, and it's a very delicate piece...

I just cleaned the glass below the viewfinder on my D3100 and all my spots are gone

I just use a cotton swab misted lightly with lens cleaner

yea i had the same problem. the dust is on the view finder. its hard to see because of the ridges. clean it with a lint free swab if possible. i use the swabs i used to use cleaning VCR heads. made of soft leather.
